Why do wrinkles form?
The visible process of skin ageing begins between the ages of 20 and 30. Up to this point, our body produces sufficient collagen so that our tissue is firm but still elastic thanks to elastin fibres. Over time, the skin produces less collagen and elastin. In addition, the skin cells divide more slowly. The water and fat content in the skin also decreases - as does the supply of nutrients to the skin.
The consequence of this is that the Thinner and drier skin is formed. This is perceived as a wrinkle on the surface of the skin.
Skin ageing that is visible from the outside initially manifests itself in small wrinkles around the eyes and corners of the mouth. After some time, individual wrinkles can then develop into deep furrows. In addition, the face often loses volume due to the slackening of the connective tissue.
Are there different folds?
There are many different types of wrinkles. We would like to give you a brief overview below:
- Static folds (independent of facial expressions or muscle tone - e.g. marionette lines or creases caused by dryness)
- Dynamic folds - they occur during movement (e.g. in the frown lines on the forehead)
- Actinic wrinkles (are mostly creases and can be categorised as static folds)

How can hyaluronic acid help against wrinkles?
Over time, the skin loses its ability to store moisture. The natural hyaluronic acid level drops. This is compensated for by the appropriate injection so that the skin can store more again. The skin becomes smoother again in the treated area.
What tasks does hyaluronic acid perform?
Hyaluronic acid has the following properties:
- Stimulation of the connective tissue cells in the skin
- High water binding capacity
- Supports our skin during regeneration
- Can minimise harmful environmental influences
What is the procedure for treatment with hyaluronic acid?
Before we treat your wrinkles with hyaluronic acid, we carry out an examination and consultation. This is particularly important as not everyone achieves the desired result with the treatment. It may also be that the treatment is not appropriate for you. We therefore always carry out a consultation and preliminary examination for new patients. It is also important to clarify which hyaluronic acid product makes the most sense for you.
Which areas can be treated with hyaluronic acid?
Wrinkles can be corrected by injecting hyaluronic acid. It is also possible to equalise volume.
Common areas of treatment are
- Forehead wrinkles
- Smoker's wrinkles
- Lip wrinkles and lip augmentation
- Correction cheek area
- Jawline (chin line between chin and ear)
- Chin wrinkles
- Corner of the mouth
- Tear troughs
- Nasiolabial folds
- etc.
Hyaluronic acid is natural
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body. It gives the skin its volume and therefore its vital appearance. The material used for injections does not contain any foreign proteins.
Wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid is particularly effective in the mouth region.
Modern, highly concentrated hyaluronic acid can be injected deep into the zygomatic arches and leads to an improvement in the contour with a slight lifting effect. This hyaluronic acid is only absorbed after about a year. Very low-viscosity hyaluronic acid is ideal for treating fine "smoker's lines" in the mouth region and for lip augmentation.
What is the difference between the hyaluronic acid preparations?
Hyaluronic acid preparations differ in terms of density and cross-linking - depending on the doctor using them, the effect and the treatment area.
If, for example, a fine wrinkle is to be filled, you will need a thinner substance. Deeper wrinkles, such as the filling of the nasiolabial fold, require a firmer substance.
That is why there are different products.
What should be considered after an injection?
In most cases, no downtime is to be expected after an injection with hyaluronic acid - you can go about your everyday life as usual. As part of the pre-treatment consultation, we will explain to you all the individual points that you should bear in mind (e.g. lip injections and smoking).
However, you should always give the treatment area some rest after the treatment. It makes sense to avoid wearing make-up for the first few hours after the treatment. If swelling or bruising occurs after the treatment, you can cool the area with a cool towel.
Important points to bear in mind:
- Also make sure you use a sunscreen that is customised for you.
- You can resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. However, you should avoid alcohol, make-up, etc. on the day of treatment
- Avoid strenuous activities for the first 48 hours after treatment
- Avoid facial massages and cosmetic treatments for 2 weeks
- Avoid intensive sun exposure / solarium and sauna visits for 1 week
Questions & answers about treatment with hyaluronic acid
Can allergic reactions occur?
An allergy to the substance is therefore unlikely. The injection site is slightly anaesthetised beforehand with an anaesthetic ointment. A very fine needle is used to make a series of injections along the wrinkles.
Is the result permanent?
Just like the body's own hyaluronic acid, a gel with hyaluronic acid is broken down over time and absorbed by the body. The results previously achieved can be maintained with a top-up treatment after around six months.
Does a hyaluronic acid treatment hurt?
In most cases, patients describe the treatment as painless. It is often described that only the puncture was noticeable.
Some products contain an anaesthetic additive - for others we use either an anaesthetic ointment or a local anaesthetic.
Is treatment with hyaluronic acid possible during breastfeeding / pregnancy?
Treatment should not be carried out during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Even if there is no official evidence of harm to the mother or child, we strongly advise against wrinkle injections. Any procedure can pose an unnecessary risk to your baby.
I want to repeat the treatment - how long do I have to wait?
In principle, re-injection is possible at any time.
What should you look out for when choosing a doctor?
- Hyaluronic acid treatments should be carried out by qualified specialists
- Pay attention to the experience of the specialist
- No treatment without counselling - there are many different products and options. There may also be medical reasons against treatment. A detailed medical history should therefore always be taken before treatment
- Check whether information on memberships in the professional societies is also correct (most professional societies offer a list of members)
