Unsightly changes to the skin such as scars, age spots or moles can be an aesthetic problem that can be corrected with surgery. Particularly on the face, such changes can be a psychological burden for the patient. Some scars can also cause functional limitations. However, even if health is at risk due to benign or malignant skin tumours, modern aesthetic plastic surgery offers convincing options for reliably removing damaged tissue while achieving an optimal aesthetic result.
Moles
Liver spots should be removed if the appearance and size of the dark spots on the skin are considered disturbing and distressing. If moles change in shape or colour or even bleed, they must be surgically removed so that the tissue can be examined microscopically for malignant cells. If it turns out that a change in the skin is malignant, it must be ensured that all tumour cells have been removed.
It is important both to reliably remove damaged tissue and to achieve good visual results. If the mole extends into the second layer of skin (dermis), it is not possible to remove it completely without scarring.
The skin changes are removed under local anaesthetic using a targeted incision technique and very fine sutures so that the scar left behind is as inconspicuous as possible. In the case of larger moles or skin changes on the nose, localised tissue displacement (flap plasty) is sometimes necessary to achieve an optimal result.
Age spots
Age spots are brownish spots on the skin. As long-term exposure to the sun favours the development of age spots, they are usually found at an older age and on sun-exposed areas of the body such as the face, neck and hands.
We can remove your age spots through targeted treatment (curettage). As this does not damage the second layer of skin (dermis), there are no scars.
Improving scars / scar correction
Scars are permanent blemishes that can be very annoying and distressing depending on their location and extent. Scar correction may be particularly recommended for scars on the face or exposed areas of the body. Although the annoying scar does not disappear completely after such a surgical correction, very good effects can usually be achieved: The scar becomes finer and less noticeable.
Before the operation, it is important to clarify what type of scar is involved. This is because different methods of correction are appropriate depending on the nature of the scar. A surgical procedure that conceals the scar is particularly suitable for thickened and widened (hypertrophic) scars. The scars are usually cut out under local anaesthetic and the wounds are sutured in different layers with fine absorbable sutures.
Scar growths (keloids), which are usually hardened and reddish in colour, should only be operated on in exceptional cases as there is a high risk of scar growth recurring. Keloids are best treated by injecting small amounts of cortisone locally (dermojet treatment).
Some scars can also be corrected with a laser, skin abrasion (dermabrasion) or medical needling.
If scars lead to functional impairments, additional tissue displacements (flap plasty) are often necessary in addition to excision of the scars.
