Fundamentals
In some women, the breast skin does not regress sufficiently. The breasts then sag, sometimes the nipples even point downwards (mammaptosis). Sagging breasts (mammaptosis) are treated with a breast lift. You can find more information on the page Breast lift.
Breast problem zone
In some women, the breasts have regressed very well and look almost as they did before pregnancy, but the areolas have remained much too large and no longer fit the breasts.
With the Reduction of the areolas the outer part of the areola is cut out in a ring shape. The wounds are sutured in several layers with fine absorbable sutures. The operation can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic and twilight sleep.
Belly problem zone
The abdomen is another common problem area. In many women, the straight abdominal muscles have moved apart in the middle (rectus diastasis) and even intensive abdominal muscle exercises have not led to a stabilisation of the abdominal wall. Standing up, it looks as if the women are six months pregnant again. Accordingly, they are looked at with pity in public when they are out and about with the baby. Often there is also an umbilical hernia (protrusion in the navel), which does not look aesthetically pleasing and can also cause discomfort.
If the abdominal skin - and often fat pads on the abdomen - have not regressed sufficiently, the excess skin and fat pads often fold over and then hang in front of the pubic mound. The result is a so-called fat apron. Beaches or swimming pools are then only visited - if at all - with a one-piece swimming costume.
Rectus diastasis, umbilical hernia and fat apron are treated with a tummy tuck. Even if there is no excess skin and fat, the abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis) can be treated with a tummy tuck. Many women do not have a fat apron, but only a localised excess of skin and fat on the lower abdomen. In these cases, it is usually sufficient to perform a small tummy tuck (lower abdominoplasty). You can find details about the operations on our page Abdominoplasty.
If only one Umbilical hernia without rectus diastasis or fat apron, corrective surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic and twilight sleep.
Scars after caesarean section
Even if most scars after a caesarean section are very fine and inconspicuous, there are occasionally bulges and scar growths.
In these cases, a Scar correction be useful. In most cases, the scar is cut out and the wound is sutured in several layers with fine absorbable sutures. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic and twilight sleep. However, there are also scars that are initially treated with cortisone injections (Dermojet). For some scars, abrasion, laser treatment or medical needling is also useful.
After a natural (vaginal) birth, the following sometimes remain Enlarged labia minorawhich can lead to discomfort when cycling and sometimes also during sex. Women no longer wear tight trousers and no longer dare to go to the sauna. A reduction of the labia minora, possibly also with a reduction of the clitoral hood, can help here. Further information on labia reduction can be found on the page Intimate surgery.
Fat deposits that have formed during pregnancy are often very stubborn and do not disappear completely despite dieting and exercise. Liposuction can help here. You can see how liposuction works on the page Liposuction.
Planning of corrective operations
Good planning of the various operations is very important for a mommy makeover. While breast augmentation or liposuction may already be advisable after the first child, breast and tummy tucks, reduction of the areola, scar correction and intimate surgery should only be performed after family planning has been completed.
In cases of severe suffering, these operations can also be performed after the first child, especially if the cause of the problems was excessive weight gain during pregnancy. However, it must be borne in mind that corrective surgery may be necessary at a later date.
Even if several operations can be performed on the same day, the number and type of operations to be performed on the same day must be chosen sensibly and responsibly. Dr Kania will advise you in detail on this subject. If several surgical sessions are necessary, the interval between operations should be at least six weeks, but preferably three months.
Questions & answers about the Mommy Makeover
When is the right time for a mommy makeover breast correction?
Basically, you decide when the time is right for you to have a correction. However, you should bear in mind that a breast correction, for example, should only be carried out once the breasts have fully recovered. This is usually completed six months after weaning.
Whether the procedure is carried out in winter or summer is irrelevant from a medical point of view - personal preferences (e.g. your leisure activities, etc.) must be taken into account.
When is the right time for a tummy tuck during a mommy makeover?
The best time for a tummy tuck is six to nine months after the birth. As you should be careful when lifting heavy loads in the first few weeks after a muscle tightening (for rectus diastasis), it is an advantage if the baby is not yet too big (heavy).
